LEARNING TERMS IN LEISURE AND STYLE

1.) filibuster- Delay so as to prevent action, esp. in a legislative body. [Fr.Dutch vrijbuiter, "Freebooter," via Spanish filibustero.]
-the use of extreme dilatory tactics in an attempt to delay or prevent action especially in a legislative assembly
"Don't try to filibuster your way out of doing your chores."
"They engaged in a filibuster that lasted for over a week."

2.)  dervish- Member of Muslim order known to move as though entering a trance; one who dances with the same abandon. [Fr.Persian darvesh, "religious mendicant".]
"She moved like a whirling dervish."



3.)  hobnob- To associate familiarly; drink together
"It's time to hobnob with the bosses."



4.)  ilk- sort or kind.
"I'm afraid I don't like to read books of that ilk."


5.)  dirge- Song or hymn of grief.
"The sadness of the funeral dirge haunts me."
